Food and Textiles

The Food and Textile Department is an exciting place to be.

Our classes allow students to learn through actively participating in the curriculum.

Students are encouraged to use technology in the kitchen and textiles room when selecting and applying practical skills, techniques, tools and materials to create design solutions. The minor in Food Studies allows students to supplement their main area of study with a theoretical and practical understanding of food systems and food systems design. The minor builds basic understanding of culinary, political, social, managerial and agricultural issues in relation to food and urban sustainability.

Textiles programs prepare students to work in apparel marketing, clothing design, and apparel retailing.

A study of textiles will give an understanding, why certain fabrics are more durable and therefore more serviceable for specific purposes. It enables one to understand the reasons why certain fabrics make cool wearing apparel as well as give an impression of coolness when used as decoration.
